Daisy

Our School Mascot

Meet Daisy our school dog who comes to school daily. She is based in the office with Colette, who brings Daisy in to us every day, but will often be seen on a lead with the children out on the track. She also goes for walks with pupils. It has been proven that working and playing with a dog improves childrens' social skill and self-esteem. Many studies have been undertaken that give credit to the benefits of dogs in the school. There is no better place to educate our children on how to treat animals that that of the school environment. If children are wary of dogs, they can be supported in approaching and handling Daisy and gain confidence in managing their fears through the presence of a specially trained dog in school.

Albert Einstein said that we must widen “our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.”

St. Francis of Assisi noticed that people who treat animals well, also treat humans well: “If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.”

Our beloved Daisy is four years old. She has been Scoil Aonghusa's Mascot since she was a puppy.
